Tickets sales in excess of 14 thousand, a slew of satisfied headliners, a legion of ecstatic punters, as well as the highly successful launch of the Independent Market Project are, in short, what made the fifth edition of Audioriver special.
This year, we sold more than 14 thousand tickets, meaning that for yet another consecutive year the event has increased its turn out. 15 percent more people came to Plock this past weekend as compared to last year. We are very pleased with the result, and we are even more pleased that Audioriver continues to grow with each edition, at the same time managing to retain its most devoted followers. And the aforementioned surge in turn out was easy to spot. The slope opposite the main stage was for the first time in the history of the festival literally crammed with people. In fact, we simply couldn’t believe what we saw during Laurent Garnier’s performance. Additionally, the Circus Tent, and its immediate surrounding, barely managed to house all those eager to see, for example, Plastikman’s live performance.
It is also worth noting that Garnier was very pleased with the vibe on the beach. No later than two hours after he finished performing, he posted the following update on his official Facebook artist page: “what a crowd.... WHAT A CROWD!!!!!! Thanks to all of you there tonight. Thanks for your amazing response and very positive vibes. And I also absolutely loved Plastikman live, he blew me away!!!!!! Brilliant night all together". And few will deny that Hawtin’s performance, one of the best of the tour according to his agent, was anything but mindblowing. However, due to terrible weather conditions, one artist, Dusty Kid, did not manage to arrive in Plock, meaning that another artist, Christian Smith, had to extend his set and fill in for his colleague. Likewise, Anthony Rother also extended his set by playing 50 minutes longer than was originally planned. And to be honest, much to the crowd’s delite, he probably would have continued to play well into the morning had it not been for us politely asking him to stop, which in the end sent a short series of boos our way. We’ve never seen such an ecstatic response and such a long applause at Audioriver.
Moving on, the Independent Market, a combination of Red Bull Music Academy workshops with a Trade Fair for the Polish electronic music scene, was teeming with life from beginning to end. Visited by festival-goers and Plock citizens with equal interest, the Old Market Square was a place where both young and old came together to enjoy the beautiful weather and quality music. It is also worth mentioned that the fountain, which throughout the weekend was filled with dancing punters and local children on numerous occasions, yet again became one of the festival’s main dancing spaces.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing throughout the weekend. The number of people that turned up at the entry gates after the thunderstorm on Friday took us by surprise. Audioriver has had experience with bad weather in the past, but never did it cause such disruptions and delays for punters upon entry. Thus, this is obviously an area that has to be tweaked logistically, so as to ensure that in the future Audioriver is fully prepared for such testing situations.
Audioriver ’10 took place on August 6th-8th in the city of Plock. More than 100 artists from all over the world performed on a total of 5 stages at the festival itself, while the Independent Market hosted a several dozen Polish acts, as well as 2 foreign artists.
